A two-car accident that occurred Monday afternoon on U.S. Highway 75 caused two people to be sent to the hospital and the highway to be closed.

Around 3 p.m., a black Toyota SUV traveling southbound on 75 rear-ended a white Chevrolet sedan in the 1200 block, said Sherman Police Officer Mark Wood. Firefighters used the jaws of life to extricate both of the occupants from the sedan. Both were taken to an area hospital after sustaining minor injuries. The occupant of the SUV was uninjured.

As a result of the accident, police shut down the highway and diverted traffic to the service road.
