Denison police arrested two men Monday afternoon who were involved in a dispute, one of whom allegedly pointed a rifle at the officers.

At about 4 p.m., officers were sent to a house in the 3300 block of W. Stafford Drive regarding a civil dispute over money that turned into a disturbance involving a gun, the Denison PD said in a written release. While officers were on their way, dispatch notified them that one of the participants in the dispute fired gunshots into the air.

When officers arrived they found the men involved in the disturbance, and that one of the men had an assault-type rifle. The man complied when the officers ordered him to put the gun down. While officers were talking with the subjects involved in the disturbance, another man — a relative of the man with the gun that officers were talking to — came out of a nearby house. This man also had a rifle, and he pointed it at the officers on scene, the DPD release says. Officers took cover and were able to talk the man into giving up his rifle.

"Remarkably, no one was injured during this tense confrontation," the release said.

The two men involved in the incident were arrested and, as of Tuesday evening, were being held in the Denison City Jail awaiting transfer to the Grayson County Jail, where they are expected to be arraigned.
