SOUTHMAYD — A boil order for Southmayd water customers was lifted Saturday after water sample tests showed that water was safe for consumption without the extra step of boiling.

The city issued the boil order on Wednesday after a water well pump went down. The breakdown left about 165 residents without water until about 5 a.m. on Thursday when the pump was brought back into operation, said Sam Tuggle, public works director for the city of Southmayd.

Texas Commission on Environmental Quality guidelines require that three consecutive daily water samples should be taken, tested, and return with negative contamination results before the boil order can be lifted, said Tuggle.

The city got the all-clear early Saturday afternoon. For more information customers should contact Tuggle at 903-818-7714.
