A hit-and-run accident on Tuesday morning in Sherman caused a power outage in the downtown area.

Around 3 a.m., a car struck a light pole at the intersection of South Travis Street and South Crockett Street. Immediately after the accident, the driver fled the scene, Lt. Ken Brooks from the Sherman Police Department said.

The accident caused a power outage that affected the downtown area for at least one hour, Brooks said.

Police eventually caught the driver and arrested him for the hit and run, and for driving while license invalid. Brooks said he is not sure how police located the driver after the driver fled the accident scene.
