Grayson College’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter is hoping to help the Marine Corps League bring smiles to lots of young faces this Christmas. Since 2002, the Phi Theta Kappa members at GC have been a collecting place for Toys for Tots boxes at the college.

"We put the boxes on campus just before Thanksgiving each year and then try to spread the word in order to gather as many donated toys as possible," said Mary Linder, Phi Theta Kappa adviser at GC. "This year we actually asked all of our new members to bring toys to the Induction Ceremony we held on Nov. 23 to help boost our collections."

Linder said the boxes generally collect between 100 and 150 toys each year. "The collection boxes will remain out through the end of the day on Thursday, Dec. 12. That next morning, the student officer team will meet to gather all of the toys collected and then deliver them to the Distribution Center in Denison," Linder said.

Donations of new, unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots can also be dropped off at Texoma Council of Governments, 1117 Gallagher Drive in Sherman; Denison’s Central Fire Station, 700 West Chestnut in Denison; Pottsboro Public Library, 104 North Main in Pottsboro; and many other businesses and organizations throughout Grayson and Fannin counties.
