DURANT, Okla. — The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the suspicious death of an unidentified man found Monday near Durant.

Just after 4 p.m. Monday, a 9-1-1 dispatcher received a call about a body found about three miles east of Durant near old Highway 70, said a written release from the OSBI. Bryan County Sheriff deputies responded to the area and found an unidentified deceased man. The sheriff’s office requested OSBI assistance in the investigation.

OSBI agents arrived on scene and processed the area where the body was located, the release said. The body was then taken to the medical examiner’s office in Oklahoma City for an autopsy. OSBI and the medical examiner’s office are working to identify the man.

The death is considered suspicious in part because the man did not appear to be old enough to have died from natural causes, said OSBI spokeswoman Jessica Brown. Investigators do not yet know whether the death was a homicide.
