A woman was taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after a 16-year-old new driver struck her car at the intersection of F.M. 1417 and Taylor Street in Sherman, police on the scene said.

Shortly after noon, a 16-year-old was driving a gray Toyota Avalon southbound on F.M. 1417, said Sherman Police Officer Mark Wood. The boy’s father was in the passenger seat. The driver attempted to turn onto Taylor Street and failed to yield to a purple Nissan Rogue traveling northbound on F.M. 1417. The two cars collided, and both airbags were deployed.

The driver of the Nissan Rogue was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, Wood said. The occupants of the Toyota Avalon were unharmed.

Part of F.M. 1417 was temporarily closed because of the accident.
