While most local families will spend this weekend getting ready to spend Thanksgiving Day with family and friends, some people in the community have, for one reason or another, no place to go or no food to eat. Four area churches seek to solve that problem. Among them is Calvary Baptist Church, 300 West Acheson St. in Denison. This is the first year the church has offered a Thanksgiving meal to the public.

Four area churches seek to solve that problem. Among them is Calvary Baptist Church, 300 West Acheson St. in Denison. "We are welcoming the community around us in for a Thanksgiving meal," said Deacon Howard Smith, who is in charge of the event.

Smith said the congregation has been blessed this year to provide help for a number of families from the community surrounding the church with items ranging from food to expenses. So, he said, the congregation thought some of those people might need help with the holiday meal.

"We will be serving from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day," said Smith. He noted that those who can’t make it to the church can get a meal delivered by calling 903-465-6003.

"We have church members who deliver Meals on Wheels will deliver meals," Smith explained. He said the church members won’t only be serving this dinner. A number of church families plan to eat the meal at the church as well.

He said the congregation wants to share the holiday with their community.
