A controlled burn claimed a vacant house in Denison Monday afternoon.

The Denison Fire Department received a call reporting the fire around 3:10 p.m., said Assistant Fire Chief Bill Ray. The owner of a vacant house on Crone Drive had been burning some wood on the property. Ray said the owner left the fire unattended and it spread to the house, first catching fire to the side of the building and then spreading to the attic. It took firefighters about 45 minutes to put the fire out. There were no injuries.

The fire gutted the house and caused the most damage to the roof, Ray said. While the fire caused extensive damage, Ray said he did not believe the house was a total loss.
