A structure fire that occurred this morning in Denison completely destroyed a building located in the 800 block of North Austin Avenue.

The fire began around 10 a.m., said Denison Assistant Fire Chief Bill Ray. By the time firefighters arrived, the building was completely engulfed in flames, and some surrounding grass and trees had caught on fire as well. It took 30 minutes to get the fire out of control.

The building was used by a metal salvage yard. Nobody was inside the building at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries, Ray said.

Ray described the damage to the building as "a complete loss." The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Denison fire marshal.
