A two-vehicle accident that occurred Tuesday evening in Tom Bean resulted in the death of a Whitewright man.

At 5:10 p.m. Tuesday, a black medium-sized car heading westbound on Highway 11 veered into the eastbound lane of traffic, said Tom Bean Police Chief John Hunt. The car struck an 18-wheeler truck, tearing off the truck’s front wheel. The truck then drove off the side of the road.

The driver of the car, Curtis Wayne Shaw, was declared dead at the scene, said Larry Ashley, justice of the peace in Precinct 4. Mr. Shaw was 50 years old. The truck driver was uninjured.

Authorities do not believe the accident was caused by the weather, Hunt said. The accident is still under investigation.
