Ice damage to Ector’s Junior High School bent support beams and rendered the gymnasium unusable.

Some support beams throughout the school were bent under the weight of the ice. The most damage occured in the school’s gymnasium, where the roof bowed but did not cave in.

The school was inspected and was not condemned, said Ector ISD Superintendent Gary Bohannon. To err on the side of caution, the gym will not be used for the rest of the school year.

The gym will have to be replaced and the support beams will be fixed next summer, Bohannon said.

Bohannon is currently negotiating with other schools in the area to hold Ector Junior High School basketball games at their facilities, he said.
