Denison Independent School District Public Information Director Sherry Christie said the DISD Board welcomed one robotic guest to their last regular meeting of the year on Tuesday evening.

Christie said the award-winning Denison High School robotics team attended the meeting to demonstrate their prized creation for the Board.

According to Christie’s report, the trustees also recognized the DHS Yellow Jackets varsity football team and coaching staff, "for their success as district champions as well as their performance as students and athletes both on and off the field."

The Board also moved to accept $21,424 in grants from the Denison Education Foundation, Christie said. The grant money will be used to fund various projects at schools around the District designed to enhance learning and the educational environment.

Christie reported that the Board approved a contract with Capco Communications "for the extension of fiber optics to the new high school."

DISD District Construction Manager Chuck Edwards presented the Board with a comprehensive report on the District’s bond projects, including the new high school. "It was noted," Christie said, "that work projects on the new gymnasiums continue to progress on schedule. … All projects are moving ahead on schedule, in spite of last week’s ice storm."

Christie said just before the meeting adjourned, "Board President Bruce Hysmith announced that all Board members have completed and are current in their required continuing education hours."

State law requires that this public announcement be made during the last regular board meeting of the calendar year.
