Denison Main Street will hold a meeting with downtown business owners, community members, and other stakeholders on Feb. 18 to discuss current and upcoming plans for the district, and local visions of future growth of Downtown Denison.

This is the first visioning meeting that Main Street has held since 2009, while an update meeting was held in 2012 to update residents and stakeholders on the progress of developments from the previous meeting.

"We want to hear what the people want, including our business owners," said Denison Main Street Director Donna Dow.

The meeting is expected to draw representatives from stakeholder organizations with an interest in the downtown vitality, including the Denison Development Alliance, Denison Development Foundation, the Chamber of Commerce, and other groups.

The meeting will be facilitated by Julie Glover, the economic development program administrator for the city of Denton, who has worked with multiple downtown economic revitalization projects since 2001.

The meeting will include a discussion of complete projects, some born from the 2009 meeting, which include the Eisenhower monument, Denison branding, the annual Christmas parade, the stage in Heritage Park and smaller, but high-demand projects like public restrooms in the district.

While many projects are completed, the group also has many projects which are still in progress including additions and modifications to the streetscape, historic signage and an incentive plan. Projects from the 2009 meeting that have yet to start include the Denison Visitor Center and July 4 Barbecue Cook-off.

Prior to the meeting, Dow created a questionnaire to help gauge public view of the downtown district in the future. Included on the list of questions are:What three things do you like best about downtown Denison? What are the top three things you believe need to be improved in downtown Denison? How can (the city of Denison) make the above improvements to keep downtown Denison moving forward? What do you envision for the future of downtown Denison as we move forward in the next five years?

Dow is asking for responses to be mailed back to Denison Main Street by Feb. 15 at P.O. Box 347, Denison, TX 75021.
