A structure fire that began early Tuesday morning in Denison has caused seven people to be displaced for Christmas.

The fire began between 1 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. at a two-story house in the 400 block of W. Monterrey Street, said Denison Assistant Fire Chief Bill Ray. The fire originated in the second floor, and its cause is under investigation.

Seven people - a family of six and a tenant who lived upstairs - were in the house at the time of the fire. Nobody was injured. The Red Cross is giving the seven people aid while they are displaced.

It took responders about two hours to put the fire out, Ray said. The fire completely gutted the second floor. The first floor received extensive smoke and water damage.
