Denison’s rich wine heritage will be on full display starting Thursday as the city hosts the 17th annual Kick Back & Say Cheers festival in the Arts & Culture District. The festival, formerly called the Denison Arts & Wine Renaissance, will showcase the best of Denison’s wine and art culture through Saturday.

Denison’s rich wine heritage will be on full display starting Thursday as the city hosts the 17th annual Kick Back & Say Cheers festival in the Arts & Culture District. The festival, formerly called the Denison Arts & Wine Renaissance, will showcase the best of Denison’s wine and art culture through Saturday.


Festivities will begin on Thursday with the a free art and wine stroll through downtown starting at 5 p.m. and running through 8 p.m. Local businesses will be hosting wine tastings, and artists will be hosted at the Mary Karam Gallery.


On Friday, a wine trail will be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The tour will begin at the Grayson Viticulture Center and will feature stops at Vinita, Homestead, Grayson Hills and Lenoir Sage Wineries. Tickets, which includes transportation, lunch and wine tastings, must be purchased in advance for $35.


Also on Friday, the Grayson College Culinary Arts program will host "An Educated Evening" at the the home of T.V. Munson, located at 6101 Grayson Dr., at 6 p.m. The culinary arts program will provide a five-course meal with complementary wine pairings provided by the Viticulture Department. This year’s theme is Spain, with food and wine inspired by the many regions of the country. Tickets are available for $85 and must be purchased in advance. Proceeds from the event will benefit scholarships for the Hospitality Management Program at Grayson.


The Gateway Opera and An Evening of Diverse Distraction will be held at 7 p.m. at 104 N. Houston, in Denison and are free to the public.


The festival will culminate on Saturday with the main event from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. at Heritage Park, which will feature eight area wineries and food tastings by Cafe Bakery and Paper plate. Entertainment and art exhibits will be held under the main tent. Tickets for the event are $25 and can be purchased in advance or at the event.
