The Denison City Council is scheduled to hold a short but civically important regular meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at City Hall, located at 500 W. Chestnut St.

The Council will hold the first public hearing for citizens to voice concerns or speak in favor of the annexation of 427 acres southwest of Denison for developer Tom Johnson’s Gateway Village community. The development would feature single family housing, condominiums, and retail. The property, located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 75 and Highway 691, will be anchored by the under-construction Hilton Garden Inn and Texoma Event Center. Council members set in motion the annexation plan on Oct. 21, when they adopted a resolution calling for public hearings. The second and final public hearing will be held on Wednesday, also at town hall.

Denison councilors are also expected to approve bids for the renovation of the public library, a project that will begin this week and wrap in mid-January. On the table Monday night will be more than $170,000 in competitive bids which were expected to be reviewed on Nov. 26 but were pushed to Monday after the meeting lacked a quorum.

The Council is not expected to use executive session to discuss any city business at this particular meeting.
