COLBERT, Okla. — The Colbert Police Department is seeking the public’s help to find a robbery suspect. The robbery took place around 3 a.m. Monday morning, according to police reports.

At a press conference Monday, Colbert Police Department Chief Jeff Goerke said the department is searching for a man identified in a surveillance video taken inside a Dollar General store in Colbert. Goerke said the suspect appears to be a dark-skinned man wearing "blue jeans, brown suede, military-style boots, wearing yellow gloves."

The suspected robber "was driving an undetermined make and model, tan in color, minivan," Goerke said.

"The suspect drove up to the store, broke the window to the front door, pulled the safe out with a tow strap attached to his vehicle, and made off with the safe and an undetermined amount of cigarettes," Goerke said.

Goerke said he had not seen anything like this robbery before. The police chief said the investigation is in full swing. Goerke said the suspected robber appeared to act without hesitation and with foreknowledge of the safe’s whereabouts in the building.

"He’s not confused when he goes in there at all," Goerke said of the suspect who was captured on surveillance video.

Anyone with any information about the suspect or the robbery is asked to call the Colbert PD at 580-296-2700.
