TOM BEAN — Customers of the city of Tom Bean’s water system have been asked to boil their water before drinking or cooking with it.

"Due to the loss of disinfection residual, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required our public water system … to notify all customers to boil their water prior to consumption," City Clerk Cathy Pugh said in a prepared statement.

To make sure the water is safe, it should be brought to a vigorous boil and then cooled for two minutes before consumption. Residents could forgo the boiling requirement by purchasing bottled water for cooking, drinking and ice making.

Officials will make a public announcement when the boil water is rescinded. Those with questions can call Kenneth Ramsey at 903-436-4581. Those who wish to contact TCEQ may call 512-239-4691.
