Jayzhia Softly added 11 points and Kristen Gittens and Mary Kate Motley added six points apiece for the Lady Bearcats, who battled to a 33-33 tie at the half but were outscored 17-6 in the third period to trail by double digits.


The Lady Cats will travel to Celina for a noon tip-off on Saturday.


Leonard 56, TB 33


TOM BEAN — Brittyn Rushing scored 16 points and had five steals as the Lady Tigers cruised to a road win in the season-opener for both teams.


Baylee Jordan and Malena Farber added 11 points for Leonard. Farber also made seven steals and Lexi Devincentis added five rebounds.


Katie Jones was the only Tom Bean player in double digits with 11 points, adding two steals. Raechel Van Horn added five steals and Sydnee Cain came up with four steals.


VA 51, Cooper 34


COOPER — Ashley Burts and Maddie Horn each scored 13 points as Van Alstyne made its season debut a winning one on the road.


Carleigh Simmons added 10 points, five steals and two assists for the Lady Panthers; Emma Moreno scored eight points; and Raigan Servati had six rebounds to go with her four points.


TCS 34, Ponder 17


Hannah Bentsen had 15 points and eight rebounds and Emily McCarthy added nine points and six steals as defending TAPPS 2A state champion Texoma Christian won easily in its season debut.


The Lady Eagles widened their lead steadily throughout and broke the game open with a 15-5 third period.


Celeste 34, Ector 26


ECTOR — Kelsee Nelson had 10 points for Ector but Celeste erupted in the second half of the season-opener for both teams.


The Lady Eagles led 12-10 at halftime before Celeste scored a dozen points in each of the final two periods to pull away.
