The Texoma gym scene changed materially Monday, as Nautilus Sport and Fitness Centers flexed its financial muscle to purchase Sherman’s Ultimate Family Fitness location. The move gives Nautilus its ninth gym facility in the region, with other clubs located in Denison, Gainesville, Whitesboro, Durant and Bonham.

"We’ve been talking with the owners of Ultimate Family Fitness for about the last two-and-a-half years," explained Shawn Teamann, a member of the Nautilus ownership group. "We were just able to kind of escalate the process here recently and get a deal done."

The Nautilus Facebook page lit-up like the dashboard of an elliptical machine Sunday after the company announced the acquisition via the social media site. Numerous Nautilus customers lauded the move for providing them with an extra location to work out, while dozens of UFF members posted questions about child care hours, fee schedules and location availability.

"We’re trying to keep the pricing the same — for any current customer (of UFF) it will be the same; there will be no price change at all, so they’ll be able to keep their same membership option that they currently have," said Teamann. "(The child care hours) are in-line with what we already currently offer, so the hours will probably remain the same."

Nautilus plans to introduce several improvements to the Family Fitness location, including a tanning facility and possibly a smoothie bar, said Teamann. Since the gym is only about five years old, most of the workout machines are modern and won’t need to be replaced, he said.

Teamann declined to disclose how many members Nautilus was adding through Family Fitness, saying he wasn’t sure. He said the organization did not have plans to make any major staffing changes and is planning to keep all UFF employees in the fold.
