For more than 30 years, Braum’s Ice Cream and Dairy Store in downtown Sherman has welcomed families, older folks and downtown workers with hot food and cold treats. This Sunday, the store is set to close.

Some in the community are unhappy about that decision and took to social media to try to get the store’s corporate office to rethink the matter.

On the page Keep Braum’s Open! Travis Street TX, Susan Atkins McGinn wrote that the downtown Braum’s serves a different function and clientele from the new store on U.S. Highway 82. "It serves our downtown; it can be walked to; it’s the go-to-place before and after downtown events and activities."

Store employees referred all requests for comments about the closing to Perri Holden at the company’s headquarters in Oklahoma. When the Herald Democrat attempted to call for a comment, the newspaper was told Holden would be out of the office until Monday and no one else at the company could comment.
