Sherman’s business community officially welcomed the city’s newest furniture retailer Tuesday with a ribbon cutting for the new Ashley HomeStore.
Representatives from the Sherman Chamber of Commerce, Denison Area Chamber of Commerce and the greater business community gathered at the new store, which is located at 2916 N. U.S. Highway 75, suite 800 in the former Office Depot location, for the celebration. Ashley representatives said the store officially opened for business Friday and they’ve gotten great feedback from the community.
“It seems like they’re glad to have us here and we’re glad to be here,” Paul Wilson, a partner in the Sherman store’s parent company Ashley North Texas, said. “We’ve owned Ashley stores for 15 years, serving North Texas in Paris and Texarkana. We knew that Sherman was a great town with a lot of positive things happening and we wanted to be a part of the community and service these customers with our products.”
The remodeled 31,000-square-foot store brought 15 new jobs to the area and features Ashley brand furniture in a variety of styles, including contemporary, traditional, transitional and the “farmhouse look,” as Ashley Marketing Director Mitzi Dowd said.
“You can look around the store and see everything is very relevant,” Dowd said. “Pretty much whatever your taste is, we’ve got it. We just want a chance to earn everybody’s business and make your home beautiful.”
Sherman Chamber President/CEO Eddie Brown said it was exciting to welcome Ashley HomeStore to the community.
“People get excited when they see a new retail store, a new furniture store, a new restaurant,” Brown said. “And these are exciting times with all the growth that’s going on. This is a great store here and we’re glad they’re a part of our community.”
Dowd said Ashley is marking its 13th year as the top selling brand in furniture.
“Ashley is actually the world’s No. 1 manufacturer of furniture,” Dowd said. “We design it, style it, build it, manufacture it, sell it. We want to be a part of everybody’s home.”
During the grand opening event, Connor Harris, from Colgate, Oklahoma, entertained those in attendance by singing and playing guitar. The first Ashley HomeStore opened in 1997 and there are currently more than 800 locations around the world, though they are all independently owned and operated.
