Sherman Fire-Rescue saved a dog while fighting a fire Monday afternoon.

Sherman firefighters responded to a structure fire call at a prefabricated home in the 1600 block of FM 1417 Monday afternoon and were able to rescue one of two dogs that were inside the structure. The other dog escaped the home on its own, so both were said to be unharmed.

Sherman Fire-Rescue Division Chief Chris Olson said no residents were at the house during the fire, though it was unclear how many people were living in the home. Olson said the fire was contained to that one residence and appeared to have originated in the back bedroom of the structure. However, he said it was too early to say whether the fire was accidental or suspicious, as the Sherman fire marshal will have to investigate the fire.
