A Whitesboro man must serve 160 hours of community service after pleading guilty to taking money from a local cemetery association.
James Monroe Chisum pleaded guilty last week to theft of property between $30,000 and $150,000 and received three years deferred adjudication. Local television station KXII said Chisum managed the money that was to be used for the care of Dixie Cemetery from 2011 to 2017. Chisum returned more than $107,000 as part of the plea agreement.
Chisum’s attorney Philip A. Linder could not be immediately reached for comment Thursday.
