Denison Police seized approximately six pounds of marijuana, cash and other drug paraphernalia Thursday. The seizure occurred in the 100 block of Fry’s Lane just north of Pottsboro at around 2:30 p.m. police officials said on Friday.

“In the culmination of an ongoing investigation at around 2:30 p.m. yesterday, our special crimes unit detectives served a search warrant on a residence north of Pottsboro,” Denison Police Lt. Mike Eppler said. “During that time, they recovered a large amount of marijuana, over six pounds, a large amount of cash and some other items that included some THC wax.”

While the seizure took place in Pottsboro, Eppler said the investigation started in Denison. In addition to Denison Police, officers with the Sherman and Pottsboro police departments and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives assisted in the incident.

Eppler said the street value of the marijuana is about $24,000, while the 29 grams of THC wax are valued at about $2,900. In addition to the drugs, police also seized more than $48,000 in cash, lawn equipment, a vehicle, electronics, tools, and marijuana growing and processing equipment.

Eppler said as the money was seized in a drug arrest, it could be reinvested in Denison.

During the search, police arrested Joel Trent O’Bannon, 29, who lived at the residence, for possession of a controlled substance between two and four grams and possession of marijuana greater than five pounds, which are both felony charges.

“It is very good to get this level of a person that is dealing in this type of thing off of the streets,” Eppler said. “This is more than just your common person out with personal use. This is more of a dealer type thing.”

Denison Police officials said they do not expect there to be additional charges in this case.
