Denison Police arrested two Sherman men Tuesday night after a traffic stop led to the discovery of more than $2,000 worth of marijuana inside their vehicle.

Lt. Mike Eppler said the two men, both 20 years old, were pulled over for a traffic violation at the intersection of North Chandler Avenue and West Bond Street shortly after 7 p.m. Eppler said he could not discuss whether the two men consented to a search of the vehicle, but said the officer who initiated the stop ultimately discovered eight ounces of marijuana. A Denison Police Department narcotics officer estimated the drugs to be worth roughly $2,400.

“It was good police work,” Eppler said. “The officer followed through with the evidence he had at the scene and made a couple of good arrests.”

One of the men was arrested for possession of marijuana in excess of four ounces and the other was arrested for the possession of drug paraphernalia. Eppler said he could not comment on whether the man charged with marijuana possession claimed sole ownership of the drugs. The Denison Police lieutenant added that no evidence was recovered to indicate that men intended to sell or distribute the drugs.
