Garrett Owen, 29, of Sherman was indicted Wednesday on four counts of assault of a peace officer, one count of aggravated assault of a public servant and one count of taking a weapon from an officer.
The indictments are formal charges and do not indicate guilt.
Previously published reports show that officers were called to the 3800 block of North Frisco Road at 3 in the morning one day in February about a man with a suspicious vehicle. There they reported finding man they believed was not telling them the truth about his name.
Police determined that the man’s name was Garrett Wayne Owen and he was found to have outstanding warrants for assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance.
The police report showed that Owen put up a fight when officers tried to place him under arrest and an officer who was not named was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Owen was also taken to the hospital after being injured in the altercation.
Grayson County court records do not show an attorney for Owen on these most recent charges.
