Sherman Police aren’t searching for the most interesting man in the world, but perhaps the thirstiest after grocery store employees thwarted his attempt to steal a shopping cart full of Dos Equis beer last week.
The failed theft occurred at the Albertsons grocery store in the 100 block of East Taylor Street shortly before midnight last Thursday. Mullen said the suspect, whom he described as a black male with a large build, placed four 18 packs and four 12 packs of the Mexican-style lager that has a series of ads about the “most interesting man in the world” in his cart and left the store without paying for the beverages.
“An observant employee noticed this guy loading all this beer up,” Mullen said. “He staged it (the cart) near the doors and when he tried to make a getaway, the employee hollered at him and followed him outside. The guy ditched the cart and took off in a vehicle.”
Mullen said the suspect fled in a dark-colored Honda Accord. And although the man was forced to give up the beer — worth an estimated $173 — Mullen said he could still be charged with misdemeanor theft if investigators catch up with him.
Those with information regarding the man’s identity or the theft are encouraged to call the Sherman Police Department at 903-892-7290.
