Sherman businesses looking to relocate could soon have a new option on Knollwood Road, west of the Sherman Town Center development.
The Sherman City Council recently approved a zoning change from a single family residential district to a retail business district for the property at 5215 Knollwood Road following a public hearing on the matter. The developers plan to build a 2,900-square-foot building on the north side of the road’s curve toward Travis Street.
“This is directly east of the Northside of Travis (Street) Apartments complex,” Director of Developmental Services Scott Shadden said. “This is for a small commercial center.”
Shadden said the city’s Planning & Zoning Commission voted 7-0 in December to approve the rezoning, subject to the conditions outlined in a letter sent to the owners by city staff. The council’s vote to rezone the property was also unanimous after no one from the community came forward to speak during the meeting’s public hearing on the matter.
Plans provided to the city show the developers intend to include 67 parking parks at the building. The L-shaped building will have room for five shops ranging from 500 square feet to 700 square feet.
