The victim in a aggravated assault in Sherman last week has died in a Metroplex hospital, Sherman Police officials said Thursday.

Sherman police officers arrested John Kennedy, 57, of Sherman, without incident Tuesday on felony charges of assault on a family or household member while impeding breath or circulation. The arrest related to an incident that occurred at a residence located in the 600 block of Contemporary Street on Jan. 5.

The victim, a 53-year-old woman who has not been identified, was initially taken to Wilson N. Jones Regional Medical Center, but was later flown to a Metroplex hospital by air ambulance, department officials said.

The initial reports did not detail the woman’s injuries, but Sherman Police Sgt. Brett Mullen said she was alive as of Tuesday.

In Thursday’s update, Mullen said the woman’s body has been sent to the Collin County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.

“Again, this is an ongoing investigation, so no additional details will be released at this time,” Mullen said.
