U.S. Rep. John Ratcliffe is expected to speak about regional economic development and the signing of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act during the Denison Development Alliance’s annual economic summit Friday. The summit will be held at 8:30 a.m. at the Hilton Garden and Texoma Event Center.
The annual summit often serves as a venue for local economic developers and interests to discuss changes that have taken place over the previous year, and what can be expected for the year to come.
In a press release following the passage of the bill, Ratcliffe said the act doubled the child tax credit from $1,000 to $2,000 per child and reduced the taxes on small-businesses, among other reductions.
“This is a historic accomplishment for our country,” Ratcliffe said in the press release. “More than three decades in the making, the bill we just passed took our outdated, uncompetitive and overreaching tax code, and turned it upside down.”
Following his speech at the economic summit, Ratcliffe will be visiting the Veteran Affairs Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Sherman where he will be discussing the VA IT Accountability Act, which he introduced with Sen. Ted Cruz.
