Grayson County grand jurors returned a murder indictment Wednesday against James Ragland, 68, who is accused of killing James Lowell Dahlem, 60, of Farmers Branch during a fight in September.

The indictment is a formal charge and not an indication of guilt.

Reports from the time of the incident show that police arrived at a home in the 1,700 block of Peyton Street back on September 4 after a call about a fight between two men in the front yard. The call was reported at around 6:20 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers arrested Ragland and Dahlem was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Days after Ragland’s arrest, Sherman Police released information that the two men were engaged in a property dispute before it escalated into a physical fight. That same release said that Ragland hit Dahlem with a baseball bat.
