The Texas Department of Transportation is advising motorists who frequently travel between Sherman and Denison on U.S. Highway 75 to prepare for bridge improvements and possible delays beginning next week.

The state agency and its Plano-based contractor IIPL USA LLC will update guardrails on a number of bridges and overpasses between FM 120 in Denison and FM 1417 in Sherman. The improvement project begins on Monday and is expected to wrap up in March 2018. The estimated price tag for the project currently sits at $930,000.

“Well they’re worn, they’re old and they’ve been dinged up here and there,” TxDOT Public Informational Officer Tim McAlavy said of the railings. “We’ve got some money in our maintenance budget and (Hwy.) 75 is pretty highly trafficked, so we figured this would be a good project to get moving on.”

TxDOT officials said the project will lead to temporary lane closures. McAlavy said motorists should be aware of possible delays and the presence of road crews.

“Slow down,” McAlavy said. “That would be my advice to anyone who drives on (Hwy.) 75, project or no project. But when you see any evidence of folks working on the roadways, slow down, don’t use your phone and pay attention.”
