Though December is best known as holiday season, in Texas it is also election season in that the deadline for filing to run for a county-wide office lands in that month.

The last day to file to run the March primaries is Dec. 11.

Grayson County offices that are up for election in 2018 include the 39th state District Court, Justices of Peace in Precincts 2 and 4, County commissioners in Precincts 2 and 4, County court-at-law judges in courts 1 and 2, County Clerk, County Judge, District Clerk and County Treasurer.

In addition, due to moves by incumbents, two other county offices will be open to election in 2018.

Grayson County District Attorney Joe Brown has been nominated to be the next U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas. If Brown is confirmed to that position, his post as DA will be open. Additionally, Rayburn Nall Jr., judge in the 59th state District Court, has announced his desire to retire, which leaves that seat open for election.
