The Sherman Police Department has opened an investigation into a series of prank phone calls made to the City of Sherman, local media outlets, county government offices, businesses and schools in recent days.
In an emailed statement released Wednesday afternoon, the department said the calls use a voice recording of Sherman Fire-Rescue Chief Danny Jones and are sometimes followed by “vulgar or profane language” spoken by someone else.
“Please be aware if you get a call from Chief Danny Jones it could be a recording of his voice and the person on the other line may be trying to record your voice as well to make further prank calls,” the statement read. ” This occurred about a year ago when a Sherman Police officer had his voice recorded while at work. Shortly afterward, prank calls were received around town using the officer’s recorded voice.”
Anyone with information regarding the prank calls is asked to call the Sherman Police Department at 903-892-7290.
