The Sherman Police Department is advising residents to keep their vehicle doors locked after numerous burglaries were reported in recent days.
The department released a statement Wednesday afternoon detailing the thefts, which were concentrated in the 3500 block of South Carolina Drive, the 3400 block of South Dakota Drive, the 200 block of East Kansas Street, the 200 block of Arapaho Trail West and the 1400 block of West Hillcrest Drive. Items stolen from the targeted vehicles included wallets, purses, backpacks, jewelry, laptops and other personal property.
“Unfortunately, people are making it easy for them by leaving their doors unlocked,” Sgt. D.M. Hampton said. “All they have to do is walk up and open the door before they start digging around in there to see if there’s anything of value.”
In addition to keeping their doors locked, Hampton said vehicle owners may reduce their risk of theft by removing all valuables from their cars and parking them inside a garage or at a location with greater security and visibility.
Those with information regarding the vehicle thefts are encouraged to call the Sherman Police Department at 903-892-7290.
