Two Denison teenagers were injured Saturday afternoon when the all-terrain vehicle they were riding collided with a concrete barrier.
Denison Police Department Lt. Mike Eppler said the two girls, both 13 years old, were riding the ATV through a grassy area in the 3100 block of South Woodlawn Boulevard when they struck a concrete pylon, similar to those seen in parking lots. Both girls were thrown from the vehicle as a result of the collision. The passenger was flown by air ambulance to a Dallas-area hospital with possible serious injuries and the driver was treated and released at the scene.
“The passenger had on a helmet, but that came off in the crash,” Eppler said. “We don’t believe the driver had a helmet on. Other than that, I don’t have any updates on their injuries or their current condition.”
Eppler encouraged those operating any type of moving vehicle to do so responsibly and to wear protective gear whenever possible.
“You have to be careful when you’re operating any type of motorized vehicle,” Eppler said. “You have to remain aware of your surroundings and wear safety equipment properly.”
