Since it started in 1981, hundreds of people have gone through the Leadership Sherman program put on by the Sherman Chamber of Commerce and they’re all being invited to the first alumni reunion next month.

The Sherman Chamber will be hosting its first Leadership Sherman alumni reception at Grayson Hall in Kelly Square on Oct. 12 from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

“We invite all Leadership Sherman graduates from each year of leadership to join us for a reunion that will allow us to share the great classes from 1981 through today,” Chamber President Eddie Brown said via email. “There have been 32 classes since 1981, counting our largest class ever this year with 35 participants. Our goal is to get as many graduates together to share their experiences from Leadership Sherman, mingle with their former classmates, enjoy stories and help us raise funds to provide a Leadership Sherman scholarship to future classes.”

Tickets for the event are $15 each and a percentage of ticket sales will be used for a future Leadership Sherman scholarship fund. Brown said appetizers and a cash bar will also be available to those attending the reunion. Tickets are available for purchase at www.shermanchamber.us.

Leadership Sherman is a professional development opportunity for men and women who are dedicated leaders either living or working in Grayson County. Its purpose is to educate the participants about Sherman’s history, schools, government, social and economic issues, and community vision, preparing them to contribute to the growth and quality of life of the area.

“We plan to have someone from each class tell about the program the year they participated and their fond memories,” Brown said of the reunion reception. “We encourage all past Leadership Sherman participants to join us and help us by contacting your former classmates to let them know about this exciting event.”
