Grayson County motorists who travel along State Highway 56 are advised to expect temporary lane closures beginning Oct. 11 as crews complete a multi-month, road-improvement project.

The Texas Department of Transportation said the project zone will stretch from Binkley Park Drive to an area just west of the intersection with State Highway 289. Contractors will prepare the current pavement for an asphalt overlay and apply new traffic striping to the roadway. The project is expected to take place over 56 working days and be completed in February 2018, but weather conditions may affect the target completion date.

“Drivers need to slow down when they’re in the area and approaching it,” TxDOT Public Information Officer Tim McAlavy said. “That’s the most important thing. And they should also consider taking a different route or expect some possible possible delays, if not.”

McAlavy said the lane closures will vary and that motorists should avoid distractions such as cellphones, food and drink, radios and navigation systems.
