Sherman Police say they have identified a person of interest in connection with a weekend hit-and-run that left one man dead.

Lt. John Kennemer said the department located a male subject, whom he further identified as the driver of the vehicle involved in a collision that killed Frederick Howard, 45, on Saturday morning. Officers responded to the intersection of Texoma Parkway and U.S. Highway 82 at approximately 5:40 a.m. after motorists reported seeing a body on the U.S. Highway 82 service road.

Investigators determined Howard was traveling along the roadway as a pedestrian and that he had been struck by a vehicle. Kennemer declined to provide the driver’s name or age and cited the continued work of investigators.

“We’re still conducting our investigation,” Kennemer said.

The Sherman Police lieutenant said the driver was identified through surveillance footage sourced from nearby businesses. Kennemer declined to comment on the type of vehicle involved in the collision and whether the driver stopped at the scene at any point. He said the driver was not in police custody.
