The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Grayson College and the Grayson County Law Enforcement Association will host a free, public safety-themed picnic on Oct. 7.

The event will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Grayson College and is meant to allow members of the public and their families to visit with area safety officials and community organizations. Attendees will be offered free hamburgers and hot dogs, the chance to meet crime prevention characters like McGruff the Crime Dog and Eddie Eagle, and receive self-defense information.

“In a lot of cases, we rely on the public to be able to provide us with information for different things that are going on, say a criminal incident or a fire or something to that effect,” GCSO Lt. Sarah Bigham said. “If we can have a better relationship with the community, it teaches the public what to look for and how to be safe in those incidents. It also shows the community that we’re humans too.”

Organizations interested in taking part in the event must register with Bigham by emailing bighams@co.grayson.tx.us.
