The Sherman Police Department has launched an investigation into an apparent hit-and-run collision that resulted in the death of a pedestrian early Saturday morning.

Lt. John Kennemer said officers were dispatched to the intersection of Texoma Parkway and U.S. Highway 82 at approximately 5:40 a.m. after motorists reported seeing a body on the roadway. Kennemer identified the victim as Frederick Howard, 45, and said responding officers and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

“It appears this is going to be a pedestrian-vehicle hit-and-run with a fatality result,” Kennemer said. “It will be considered a homicide at this time.”

Kennemer said investigators have not yet determined when the collision occurred and are still working to identify a suspect.

“If anyone in the public has heard anything, seen anything or has any information, we ask that they please come forward and help us with this investigation,” Kennemer said.

Those with information regarding the case are encouraged to call the Sherman Police Department at 903-892-7290.
