The Sherman Police Department has released the name of the man killed during an altercation on Monday.

Sherman Police Sgt. D.M. Hampton identified the victim as James Lowell Dahlem, 60, of Farmers Branch in a text message Wednesday.

Lt. John Kennemer said officers responded to a call of a disturbance Monday involving two men outside a home in the 1700 block of East Payton at 6:20 p.m. Upon the officers’ arrival, Kennemer said James Ragland, 68, was arrested on a charge of murder and Dahlem was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Hampton said the two men stayed in the same home and were engaged in a property dispute before the conflict escalated. The Sherman Police sergeant said Dahlem was attacked with a baseball bat.

Ragland was booked into the Grayson County Jail, where records indicate he remained in custody as of Wednesday afternoon. It was unclear whether Ragland has an attorney.
