Work on a pair of the city’s current fire stations will be discussed by the Sherman City Council during its meeting Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the council chambers of City Hall, 220 W. Mulberry St.
The council will consider a resolution to award a contract for the construction manager-at-risk for renovations to Fire Station No. 5 and a request to advertise for a construction manager-at-risk for the construction of a new Fire Station No. 4.
Fire Station No. 5 hasn’t received significant renovations since it was built in 1974 and city staff said it does not have sufficient space for offices, private dormitories, multi-user restrooms and shower facilities. Fire Station No. 4 is being relocated from its current location on the southeast corner of the intersection of FM 1417 and U.S. Highway 75 to the west side of Northgate Drive in the Blalock Industrial Park.
Tuesday’s meeting is a special called one for the council as it opted to move it regular meeting from Monday to avoid working on the Labor Day holiday.
The council will also consider awarding contracts for roof repairs at the Sherman Municipal Building and for the implementation of Route Optimization software. A separate resolution will be considered for the execution of a development agreement for the construction of public facilities in Magnolia Village, which is to the east of North Travis Street and the north of U.S. Highway 82.
City staff is requesting authorization for emergency repairs at the city’s Wastewater Treatment Plant and Dorchester 10 Trinity Water Well. The former is needed as a result of the heavy rains received on Aug. 12 and the latter is because of a planned shutdown of the water treatment plant.
Public hearings will also be held on the city’s ad valorem tax rate and a pair of ordinances related to Sherman’s utility rate.
Near the end of the meeting, the council will go into a closed, executive session to consult with the city attorney, discuss personnel matters and deliberate regarding economic development negotiations. The council will return to open session to take any actions deemed necessary.
