An explosion in Leonard left one man dead in Leonard Thursday afternoon. Police officials said the incident occurred in the 300 block of West Cottonwood shortly after 5 p.m.
Leonard Police Sgt. Chris Kitts said police received a call about the explosion at 5:13 p.m. Police believe a man was working to weld a diesel gas tank to the back of a pick-up truck when fuel ignited and caused the explosion, Kitts said.
Kitts said the victim received traumatic injury to his face and head that resulted in his death. The individual was alone at the time, and no one else was injured. He added that there was no structural damage to anything beyond the fuel tank, which was removed from the vehicle in the process.
Kitts said police are not releasing the name of the victim until family can be properly notified.
