A 26-year-old Denison man has been indicted on a murder charge. The indictment is a formal charge and not an indication of guilt.
Brandon Jeffery was indicted on charges of murder and manslaughter Wednesday according to information released by the Grayson County District Attorney’s office.
The charges stem from a May 5 incident that happened inside a 2007 Lincoln car that was parked outside a Denison bar where Jeffery is said to have shot Devin Wayne Owens in the face. Owens was taken to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries.
Previously published reports say that Jeffery was allegedly playing with a handgun when the shooting happened. A Denison police report said the incident happened just after midnight in the parking lot of Tupelo Honey Bar and Grill on East Woodard Street. A witness told police that Jeffery then fled the scene.
When they located him, Jeffery told police that the shooting was an accident and that he left the scene because he panicked. He said he had consumed five drinks that night and that he didn’t think the gun was loaded.
Grayson County court records do not show an attorney of record for Jeffery at this point.
