Students and families of the Sherman and Denison independent school districts are encouraged to review the following information and dates in preparation for the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year:


First day of school


The Sherman Independent School District will hold its first day of school on Aug. 16 and the Denison Independent School District will hold its first day of classes on Aug. 17.


Registration and immunizations


Sherman ISD students must fill out either a New Student Registration form or a Returning Student Enrollment form at the campus they will attend before Aug. 16. Families may use Sherman ISD’s Attendance Zone Map, available on the district’s website, to determine which campus their child will attend.


Students new to Denison ISD must complete an enrollment form at the campus they will attend. All new students must provide a birth certificate and social security card. School administrators also ask that, if possible, students and their families provide proof of residence in Denison through documents such as a utility bill or lease and mortgage documents. Students who are both new to the district and are enrolling at Denison High School must make a pre-enrollment appointment at DHS before Aug. 17 and may do so by calling 903-462- 7125. The district also recommends that these students bring documents related to any previously earned high school credits.


All new Sherman ISD and Denison ISD students must submit proof of the required immunizations to their respective campuses by the first day of school. This means that all students must be current on their immunizations before the first day of classes.


The Grayson County Health Department will hold the last day of its shot clinic Friday at its Sherman office, located at 515 North Walnut Street. Each child must bring a complete shot record and be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The cost is $20 per child. Cash is the only accepted from of payment. Checks, CHIPS and private insurance will not be accepted.

Hyde Park Elementary School (Head Start): Aug. 15 from 3-4 p.m.


Hyde Park Elementary School (Morning pre-K): Aug. 15 from 2:45-3:15 p.m.


Hyde Park Elementary School (Afternoon pre-K): Aug. 15 from 3:30-4 p.m.


Hyde Park Elementary School (Kindergarten): Aug. 14 at 6 p.m.

Elementary school meals cost $2.60 each and secondary school meals cost $2.80 each. Applications for free and reduced-cost lunches may be found on the district’s website or at the student’s school. Transportation


Sherman ISD bus routes may be found by visiting the district’s website and searching “bus routes.” Denison ISD bus routes may be found by visiting the district’s website and selecting the “bus routes” tab, on the left of the page. Students and their families are encouraged to review the routes and pick-up times together, prior to the first day of classes.


Dress code


The Sherman ISD dress codes will remain the same as those of the 2016-2017 academic year.
