After Denison Police responded to the Walmart parking lot because of a report of children left alone inside a vehicle Sunday morning, the father returned, but with merchandise allegedly stolen from the store.
At about 11:15 a.m. on Sunday, officers were called to the Walmart in the 400 block of North U.S. Highway 75 because the young children were left unattended. Denison Police Lt. Mike Eppler said the two children were 5 and 6 years old. The Denison Police report states that as an officer stood with the vehicle to ensure the children were OK, the father returned.
The man told police he left the children inside the vehicle because one of the children didn’t have shoes, the report states. The man was allegedly carrying a bag from the store, which Eppler said contained clothing items. P0lice determined the items were stolen, and the man was arrested for burglary of a building and failure to identify, or giving false or fictitious information.
Eppler said an open container was also in the vehicle, so the man was issued a court summons for the open container and for leaving the children unattended. The report states the children were released to the man’s roommate.
