A Van Alstyne man was in custody and another person was injured after a shooting at a Far North Dallas hotel Monday afternoon.
Officers were called to the Wyndham Dallas Suites in the 7800 block of Alpha Road, near Coit Road and Interstate 635, just before 2 p.m. Monday
According to police, a gunman entered the room and shot the victim in the leg. A female witness in the room managed to escape.
On Tuesday, police said the shooter was Jeremey Chaney, 37, of Van Alstyne.
The hotel was partially evacuated and police secured the parking lot while waiting for a SWAT team to arrive.
The SWAT team, which treated the incident as a hostage situation, entered the room around 4 p.m. and the gunman surrendered peacefully. He was arrested and taken to police headquarters to be questioned.
Chaney was booked into the Dallas County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was being held Tuesday, with bail set at $25,000.
The victim was brought out of the hotel on a stretcher and hospitalized with injuries that weren’t life-threatening.
Police said the shooting appeared to be the result of a domestic dispute but did not disclose the relationships between the gunman, victim and witness.
No officers fired their weapons during the incident.
